UNO Selected No. 2 in MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --The UNO soccer team was voted 2010 preseason No. 2 by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association coaches on Thursday. The poll has UNO (56), four points behind last year's defending MIAA champion, No. 1 Truman (60), and one point ahead of No. 3 Central Missouri with 55 points. The Mavericks received one first-place vote but were topped by the Bulldogs of Truman with six.
Rounding out the MIAA preseason top-five, Washburn (42) was picked No. 4 and Missouri Western (31) was picked to finish fifth.
Last year the Mavericks won the first of three matches against Truman, but lost the final two including a 1-0 loss in the NCAA South Central Regionals. The team finished 2009 with a record of 13-6-2 and appeared in its eighth straight NCAA postseason.
In 2010, UNO will open its season on the road at the Broncho Invitational against the University of Central Oklahoma on Sept. 3.
This season marks the12th for UNO head coach Don Klosterman and assistant coach Ted Anderson. Since the soccer program's inception in 1999, the staff has produced a record of 183-45-9, eight NCAA appearances, six Conference Championships (NCC) and a 2005 National Championship.
MIAA conference play will start for the Mavs on Sept. 9 as they face off with Missouri Western at the UNO Soccer Field at 3 p.m.
