BRANSON, Mo. - The UNO golf team made sure the Drury University Fall Shootout lived up to its name. The Mavericks fired a school-record team score to come from 16 shots back to win the event at the Ledgewood Country Club.
UNO finished with a team score of 611, two strokes better than the previous record set just last year at the same tournament. The Mavs' second-round score of 291 shattered the previous school mark of 302 set in 2003. St. Edward's University was second at 620, just edging out Dallas Baptist which finished in third at 621.
#Ricca Soper# led the charge with a one-under-par score of 70. She posted UNO's best score for the tournament with a 150, good for a tie for third overall. Her score on day two is the second-best round ever by a UNO golfer, bettered only by Erin Ommen's 68 which she recorded in 2008.
#Rebecca Pollock# had UNO's second-best round of the day with a 72, putting her at 154 for the tournament. That was good for third on the Mavericks behind #Dani Suponchick# who closed with a 75 today and 152 for the tournament.
#Armana Christianson# finished with 74 for a two-day total of 157, and #Amy Powell# shot 78 to finish at 159. UNO was one of only two teams with all five players below 80 in the second round.
Freshman Brooke Thilges, playing as an individual, had a two-day score of 173 after an 86 today.
The Mavs will try to keep the momentum going on Sunday when they begin the Concordia University Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
