
Mavericks Host Northwest Missouri State Thursday

Week 5 Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team (3-4-1, 3-2-1 MIAA) will play only one game this week. The Mavericks will face Northwest Missouri State on Thursday at UNO Soccer Field at 4 p.m.
The Mavericks enter this week with a 3-4-1 overall record and a 3-2-1 record in MIAA action. The team is coming off of a 1-0 road win against Missouri Southern University on Sept. 25.
The win, preceded by a 1-1 tie at Southwest Baptist University last Thursday, has lifted the Mavericks to No. 3 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association standings.
Mavericks Moving Up in Conference Play
Since the Mavericks opened MIAA action on Sept. 9 with a 2-0 shutout of Missouri Western, the team has jumped into the top-three in the MIAA standings.The Mavs have earned victories over Missouri Southern, Missouri Western and Washburn, and a tie against Southwest Baptist University.
Previous conference leader, Truman State University, was surpassed last week by Central Missouri. After starting 7-0 this season, the Jennies have moved into the No. 3 spot in the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com D-II Nationall Poll. It is the highest mark in the school's history.
The Mavericks lost a close 3-2 battle to the Jennies at UNO Soccer Field on Sept. 19 but will have another game with UCM on Oct. 21 in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Series
The Mavericks hold a 8-1-0 record against Northwest Missouri State, including two victories last season. UNO has outscored the Bearcats 30-4 in the series going back to the 1999 season when the two teams first met.
The teams will meet again on Oct. 30 in Maryville, Mo., a contest which could prove to be a difference-maker in MIAA standings and postseason play.
Scouting The Bearcats
This season, the Bearcats currently hold a 1-5-2 overall record and are 1-4-1 in MIAA play. The team has already played in four double-overtime games this season, and has lost four games by only one goal each. Junior midfielder Kelly Obley is the team's leader with two goals scored and four points in 310:00 minutes of action. The team is currently 0-3-1 on the road this year and is ranked seventh in the MIAA standings.
The Coaches
Head coach Don Klosterman is in his 12th season at the helm of the Maverick women's soccer team. He has compiled a 186-49-10 overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to eight-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2002-2009). In those appearances, Klosterman guided the Mavericks to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons (2002-2007), and led the team to a 2005 National Championship. During his tenure, he has earned the National Coach of the Year honors two times (2002, 2005).
Tracy Hoza is in her eighth season as the Bearcats head coach. Last season she led her team to a program-record 11 wins and fifth place in the MIAA standings, the team's best finish since 2001. That performance followed a 10-win season in 2008 and a nine-win mark in 2006.
What's On Tap?
UNO will be back home October 7 when it takes on Emporia State at 4 p.m. The Mavericks are 5-0-1 all-time against the Hornets including a pair of victories last season. The Mavs will then go back on the road to face Missouri Western in St. Joeseph, Mo., on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
