WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Central Missouri used an early 22-4 run to gain separation from the UNO women's basketball team, and the Jennies never looked back, defeating the Mavs 92-75 on Saturday afternoon at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
The Jennies snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-5 in the MIAA, 7-7 overall. Nebraska-Omaha dropped its fifth conference road game of the year and fell to 2-6 in the MIAA and 5-7 overall.
Tied at 12 at the 13:49 mark of the first half, Central Missouri scored 12 straight points and finished a 22-4 run at the 8:07 mark to claim a commanding 34-16 lead. During the run, UCM hit six straight field goals and 8-of-9 overall, including three 3-pointers, two from guard Kara Fleming. The Jennies shot 50.0 percent from the field, including a red-hot 54.5 percent from 3-point range (6-of-11) in the first half.
The Mavs began to chip away after falling behind by 18, pulling to within 12 at halftime at 50-38. Freshman #Stacia Gebers# led the charge with 10 first-half points and three rebounds. Gebers hit 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-3 3-pointers in six minutes of playing time off the bench in the first half.
In the second half, UNO would get no closer than 10 points when Gebers made a layup with 19:28 remaining. The Jennies got 26 points from Fleming and 19 from forward Nicole Caddell. Central Missouri won the battle on the boards 45-33 and finished at 48.4 percent from the field.
The Mavs were led by #Heather Pohl#, who scored 17 points. Gebers finished with a career-high 14, and #Jamie Nash# added 13 to go with a team-best five rebounds.
The Mavs return home for a pair of games next week. On Wednesday, Southwest Baptist comes to the Sapp Fieldhouse for a 5:30 p.m. contest. On Saturday, UNO faces Missouri Southern at the Sapp Fieldhouse at 1:30 p.m.
