Game Notes
The UNO women's soccer returns home for the final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon. UNO hosts former MIAA foe Washburn on Senior Day at the UNO Soccer Field at 12 p.m. Attendance for Saturday's game is free for everyone and local youth clubs in attendance will be recognized. The Mavs will also honor their three seniors before the game - Hilary Jackson, Maggie Olson and Hayley Renshaw.

2011 Record: 1-11-3 (1-4-2 MIAA)

Washburn is 1-11-3 overall and 1-4-2 in the MIAA. The Lady Blues are winless in their last eight games (0-6-2). Washburn's lone win was a 2-0 victory over Fort Hays State on Sept. 17. The Lady Blues are 0-6-1 in road games this season. Only two players for Washburn have accounted for the team's seven goals on the year. Leah Talley has four, while Caysie Beetley has the other three. Megan Buckely has a team-high three assists this season.
The Coaches
Don Klosterman is in his 13th year as the head coach of the UNO Mavericks. The only head coach in the program's history, Klosterman has a 197-58-12 record, just three wins from number 200 in his career at UNO. The two-time national coach of the year has led the Mavericks to the Division II national semifinal four times, culminating in the 2005 NCAA Division II national championship. Under Klosterman, the Mavericks are 19-7 all-time in NCAA Division II tournament play and have won six conference titles. Klosterman formerly served as the head men's soccer coach at Benedictine College (1979-83) and Creighton (1984-86). He graduated from Benedictine in 1974.
Tim Collins is in his ninth season as the head coach at Washburn. Collins is 77-70-29 as the head coach of the Lady Blues. He graduated from Ottawa University (Kan.) in 1991.
Free Admission For Last Home Game
The UNO Mavericks will play their third and final home game on Saturday against Washburn. In honor of it being the last home game of the season and senior day, admission will be free for all fans. Youth club players will be in attendance and will be recognized during the game. Free hot dogs will be available for all fans as well.
Senior Send-Off
Saturday's game will be the final one played at home for UNO's three seniors - Hilary Jackson, Maggie Olson and Hayley Renshaw. The three Maverick seniors will be honored prior to kickoff. Jackson and Renshaw have started all 12 games for the Mavs this season. Jackson has a team-high two assists and was UNO's leading scorer last year with six goals and three assists. Renshaw has been a mainstay at center back for the Maverick defense. Olson has appeared in every game and had the tying goal in an exhibition game against Creighton.
Facebook Photo Contest
Saturday's game will feature a Facebook photo contest for fans for an opportunity to win a free T-shirt. Fans should take a picture of themselves at the game and post it on the UNO Women's Soccer Facebook page. Assistant Coach Ted Anderson will choose the most spirited fan photo and will contact the winner the following day to receive a free T-shirt.
Success Against the Summit
In their first season as a Division I school, the Mavericks fared well against Summit League opponents. UNO faced four Summit League teams on their 2011 slate, finishing with a 2-2 record. On Aug. 28, UNO defeated South Dakota 3-2. The Mavs then dropped games at two schools that are undefeated in Summit League play this season. North Dakota State (6-0 in conference play) beat UNO 3-1 on Sept. 18, and UMKC (5-0 in The Summit League) beat UNO 2-1 on Sept. 24. UNO knocked off Western Illinois on Thursday 1-0.
Last Time Out
Macomb, Ill. - Katie Pickinpaugh's goal in the 34th minute proved to be the game-winner in the Mavs' 1-0 shutout of Summit League foe Western Illinois on Thursday at MacKenzie Alumni Field.
Pickinpaugh scored off of an assist from Melanie McCormick at the 33:40 mark to give the Mavs the 1-0 lead. UNO goalie Katelyn Tschida made seven saves in the win, earning her third shutout of the year. The Mavs improved to 4-6-2 on the season, while the Leathernecks fell to 7-9 overall.
The Mavs had 11 shots in the match, but the only one that hit the frame was the one Pickinpaugh made count. McCormick won a loose ball in the middle of the field and played a ball in the air over Western Illinois' right back. Pickinpaugh ran on to the ball, beat a defender off the dribble and finished from 10 yards out with a solid strike to the low far post.
It was the sophomore's team-leading fourth goal of the season. McCormick picked up her first point of the season with the assist.
The win snapped a four-game skid and marked the Mavs' third win over a Division I opponent and second over a Summit League team in their first season as a Division I school. The Mavs ended the season with a 2-2 record in their four games played against teams from their future conference.
Head Coach Don Klosterman picked up his 197th career win at the helm at UNO, putting him just three shy of his milestone 200th win.
