Mavericks Compete in Omaha Invite

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO women's tennis team competed in their last competition of the fall season over the weekend at the Omaha Collegiate Invite hosted by Creighton at Koch Tennis Center.
In flight A doubles action, seniors Kelsie Olson and Heather Hottman took the first match in the double elimination bracket, defeating South Dakota's Alena Sergeychik and Marina Kiefer, 8-3. The duo later fell to Creighton's Anna Kirshenbaum and Analese Snyder, 8-5. In the consolation final Olson and Hottman played against Jennifer Wateley and Elizabeth Tapia.
Freshmen Rachel Pierson and Jacqueline Baude played in flight B, where the two fell short to Barudzic and Reddy, 8-4 before coming back and defeating Natalie Medina and Bethany Goeden of South Dakota State, 8-4. In the battle for fifth place, Pierson and Baude took on Northern Colorado's Jennifer Buchanan and Adriana Nieto.
In the final doubles action, senior Caitlin Christy and junior Kelsey Bigando took on a mixed team of South Dakota State's Katie Elifson and Northern Colorado's Taylor Schumaker, with UNO taking the match 8-2. Bigando and Christy later dropped a match to USD duo Maddy Warder and Ysabel Nunez, 8-6.
In singles flight A action, Olson fell to Creighton's Jennie Hartijes (6-0, 6-0) before falling again to Northern Colorado's Buchanan (6-0, 6-3). Playing for seventh place, Olson faced Bryna Nasenbeny of SDSU before falling to Jennifer Whateley of Northern Colorado..
Hottman started her singles competition in flight B, falling short to Elizabeth Tapia of Northern Colorado (6-3, 6-1) and eventually facing defeat by USD's Nina Barudzic (6-2, 6-1). Hottman and SDSU's Jenny Blackburne later dueled in the seventh-place battle, falling to Caitlin, 6-1,6-1.
Lindsay Weideman and North Dakota's Steph Biehn stated flight C action with Biehn defeating Wiedeman, 6-0, 6-3. The junior then fell to SDSU's Henry, 6-0, 6-3. In the seventh-place finish, Weideman and McDougall of SDSU squared off. Weideman won the match for a seventh place finish, 7-5, 7-5.
In flight D, Baude fell short to South Dakota State's Goeden and to North Dakota's Sween with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-4, respectively. In the later match for seventh, Baude and USD's Kiefer ended the match 6-0, 6-2.
Pierson started flight E by dropping the first two matches to Schumaker of Northern Colorado (6-3, 6-1) and then to Nunez of South Dakota (4-6, 5-7 (10-7)). In the seventh-place match, Pierson won the match 6-3, 6-2.
In the final flight, Bigando defeated Mindy Lawrence of North Dakota, 6-3, 2-6, (11-9).
