Mavs Reel Off 12-0 Run in Final Minutes to Beat We

INSTITUTE, W. Va. - A 12-0 run in the final minutes of the game propelled the UNO women's basketball team to a 68-59 road win at West Virginia State on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks trailed 59-56 after a Yellow Jacket 3-pointer with 3:21 left, but UNO went on a 12-0 run over the final 3:07 to claw its way to the win. UNO (3-2) did not miss a shot or a free throw in the final four minutes of the game, while West Virginia State (1-3) went 0-for-5 from 3-point range and turned the ball over twice after its final basket.
After WVSU's Jasmine Blanton sank the three to make it 59-56, Heather Pohl drew a foul and knocked down both free throws. At the other end of the floor, Stacia Gebers made a critical steal. Then on the ensuing Maverick possession, Gebers scored and was fouled. Gebers was able to convert the old-fashioned three-point play, giving the Mavs a 61-59 lead with 2:29 left.
West Virginia State missed 3-pointers on their next two possessions, and Zenta Liepa all but sealed the win with a 3-pointer to make it 64-59 with 1:03 remaining. Gebers and Jamie Nash each hit two free throws the rest of the way to ice the win, while the Yellow Jackets couldn't connect from long distance.
Five Mavs finished in double-figures. Gebers, Frauendorfer, Nash and Pohl each had 12 points, and Liepa had a career-high 11. Gebers added a career-high 10 rebounds for her first-ever double-double. Nash also had eight assists and seven rebounds to her line.
West Virginia State led for most of the first half and had a six-point lead early in the second half at 33-27 with 19:14 left in the game. But UNO responded with a 20-7 run and staked a seven-point lead, 47-40, with 12:09 left on a 3-pointer by Pohl. The Yellow Jackets regained the lead with 4:23 to play, 55-54. After a West Virginia State free throw, Frauendorfer made a layup to tie the game at 56-56, but West Virginia State's Jasmine Blanton then drained the 3-pointer with just over three minutes left that turned out to be the Yellow Jackets' final points of the game.
The Mavericks finish up their three-game road trip at Marshall on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. (CT).
