OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team lost at home to Central Missouri, 68-54, Wednesday night at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
The loss marked the seventh in a row for the Mavericks and dropped them to 6-17 overall and 3-16 in the MIAA. The Jennies moved to 14-11 overall and 10-9 in the MIAA.
#Heather Pohl# led all scorers with 21 points, 14 coming in a strong first half for UNO, but the Jennies outscored UNO by 13 in the decisive second half. The Mavericks, wearing pink uniforms as part of a "Pink Night" fundraising promotion for breast cancer awareness, trailed by just one at halftime but fell victim to a 20-4 run by Central Missouri to start the second half.
Nebraska-Omaha bolted out of the gates to a 7-0 lead at the 16:00 mark. The Mavs led by as many as 10 in the first half at 24-14, but the Jennies took their first lead of the game with 37 seconds left in the first half after a 14-3 run.
Although the Mavericks led for most of the first half, they went into the locker room trailing 31-30 after a 30-foot shot at the buzzer by Erin Redmond.
The Jennies came out of the halftime break strong with a 20-4 run spanning the first nine minutes of the half. Leading 35-34, Central Missouri scored 16 straight points over a span of 5:07 to take control of the game with a 51-34 lead. Kara Fleming keyed the run with seven of her 13 points.
Renae Shippy led the Jennies with 16 points. Nicole Caddell added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds off the bench.
The Jennies held a 46-28 rebounding advantage and turned 14 offensive rebounds into a 15-0 edge in second-chance points.
For the Mavericks, #Paige Frauendorfer# added 12 points, while #Jamie Nash# had seven points, five rebounds and five assists.
The Mavs are on the road on Saturday at Southwest Baptist for a 1 p.m., tip-off.
