Mavericks Earn First MIAA Win at Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The UNO men's tennis team picked up a 5-4 win on Saturday against Truman.
The win snapped a three-match losing streak and improved the Mavericks to 6-5 on the year and 1-1 in the MIAA.
The Mavs got two doubles wins on the day, as #Drew Mercier and Matt Frost# won 8-1 over Eric McCollough and Mark Sturley, and #Eric McKnight and Anthony Forcucci# knocked off Adam King and Kirk Schlueter, 8-6. Truman took No. 3 doubles when Mike Merchant and Joe Murphy-Baum defeated #Mike Hupf and Brandon Otoski#, 8-4.
In singles play, Mercier scored a 6-0, 1-6, 6-2 win over McCollough at No. 1 singles. McKnight picked up a win at No. 2 singles over Sturley, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. Frost added the final win for UNO at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory over King. Forcucci, Otoski and #Andrew Lescelius# were beaten in the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 matches, respectively, but the Mavericks earned the 5-4 advantage in the team score.
UNO hosts Southwest Baptist next Friday at 1 p.m., at the Koch Tennis Center.
