Mavericks Set Qualifying Marks on Track, In Field

NORWALK, Calif. - Senior thrower Heather Minssen continued her string of strong performances as the UNO track and field team took part in the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State on Saturday.
Minssen threw 47-9 1/4 in the shot put, less than two feet off her school record set two weeks ago. She also posted a throw of 151-3 in the discus, less than two feet off her personal best which she threw just one day earlier at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Asuza Pacific.
Nkeiruka Domike, competing unattached, posted a meet record of 42-9 3/4 in the triple jump.
Closer to home, the Mavericks took part in the Concorida Invitational in Seward. Kathie-Lee Laidley finished in a four-way tie for second in the high jump with a leap of 5-6, a national qualifying mark. Lianne McNaughton took fifth in the shot put with a mark of 44-8.
On the track, Nicole Behm took fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:13.23. Kayla Fenske took part in both the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters. She posted a time of 5:32.94 in the 1,500, good for 19th, and finished 10th in the 5,000 with a time of 20:47.02.
The Mavericks will take part in two meets next week. They'll be at the Doane College Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23 and travel to the John McDonald Invitational at Arkansas on April 23.
