OMAHA, Neb. – University of Nebraska Omaha head women's soccer coach Don Klosterman today announced his team's schedule for the 2011 season. The Mavericks are currently scheduled to play 15 games including a tournament at home in early September.
“We are fortunate that, in the first season of our transition to Division I, we have been able to schedule more than half of our games against Division I schools,” said Klosterman. “As part of that schedule, we were able to schedule four games against our future opponents in The Summit League. Our players will get a good idea of what type of competition awaits us in the league next year.”
The Mavericks begin the 2011 season with an exhibition game against Creighton on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at Morrison Stadium. Before the month is over, they also will play games at Wisconsin – Green Bay (Aug. 19) and South Dakota (Aug. 28).
In addition to South Dakota, UNO also will play Summit League schools North Dakota State (Sept. 18), Missouri – Kansas City (Sept. 24) and Western Illinois (Oct. 20). The Mavericks' other Division I opponents include North Dakota (Sept. 16), Air Force (Sept. 30) and Northern Colorado (Oct. 29).
The Mavericks will host a tournament on Sept. 2 and 4 at the UNO soccer field, playing Division II opponents Central Oklahoma and Midwestern State out of Texas. UNO also will host former MIAA foe Washburn on Oct. 22. Currently, the Mavericks have scheduled just three home games.
UNO also will make a trip to Washington state to play Division II schools St. Martin's (Sept. 8) and Seattle Pacific (Sept. 10). The full schedule is available here.
