Nichols Steps Down As Women's Tennis Coach

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska Omaha athletic department announced today that head women's tennis coach Bill Nichols is retiring from college coaching. The only coach in the 11-year history of UNO women's tennis, Nichols plans to pursue new personal and professional opportunities.
“I have had a great experience at UNO, and it has been a growing experience for me professionally,” said Nichols. “I'm looking forward to continue coaching at the community level to allow me to do more one-on-one coaching.”
“Bill has done a terrific job, both creating our women's program in 2000 and then starting the men's program just three years ago,” said Mike Kemp, Associate Athletic Director. “Based on the work he has done, we expect there to be a great deal of interest in this position as we transition to Division I. We all wish Bill the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
UNO will begin an immediate search for Nichols' replacement.
Nichols posted a record of 120-72 while guiding the UNO women. He won three North Central Conference Championships and his teams made five straight trips to the NCAA tournament. Prior to coaching at UNO, Nichols led the Wichita State men's team for 12 seasons, earning 157 victories and five Missouri Valley Conference titles.
A native of Chicago, Nichols is a 1980 graduate of Wichita State where he was a standout for the Shockers, earning three singles and two doubles titles in the MVC.
