Farr to Join Mavericks in 2011-12

OMAHA, Neb. – Guard Mitchell Farr will join the UNO men's basketball team for the 2011-12 season, Head Coach Derrin Hansen announced Friday. Farr is a 6-2, 180-pound shooting guard from Racine J.I. Case High School in Racine, Wis.
“Mitchell comes from an outstanding high school basketball program, and we are fortunate to sign such a quality player and student-athlete,” Hansen said. “His versatility of shooting and handling of the ball will give us depth in our guard position, and he is a great shooter with unlimited range.”
A three-year letterwinner in basketball, Farr played for Coach Steve Jaskulske and served as team captain for all three seasons. As a senior, he earned honorable mention all-state recognition from the Associated Press and the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association and was nominated for the 2011 McDonald's All-America Team. A first-team All-Racine County and All-Southeastern Conference pick, Farr was also a member of the WBCA All-Star South Team. In his final campaign, he averaged 14.6 points and three assists per game while shooting 41 percent from behind the arc. Farr helped his team to a 22-3 overall record en route to the conference championship and a 2-1 postseason showing.
In his junior year, Farr was first-team all-league, second-team all-county and honorable mention all-area. He averaged 15 points, five rebounds and three assists per contest and shot 84 percent from the free throw line. As a sophomore, Farr garnered second-team all-conference and honorable mention all-county accolades. Additionally, he played AAU ball for the Milwaukee Running Rebels and Coaches Dell Williams and War Jenkins.
Farr also lettered three years in football, playing quarterback and receiver and serving as team captain in his junior season. He is the son of Michael and Shelley Farr and plans to major in physical education at UNO.
“I really liked the players, coaches and campus when I visited UNO,” Farr said. “I feel like I have a good grasp on the atmosphere already. I'm looking forward to the transition to Division I, and I hope to contribute to the team right away. UNO fits well with the Summit League, and I'm excited to get to Omaha this fall.”
