UNO Volleyball Earns 12th Straight AVCA Academic A

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The UNO volleyball squad earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 12th straight year, the AVCA announced Wednesday. As a team, the Mavericks recorded a 3.68 GPA during the 2010-11 academic year to claim the honor.
The award, which was initiated in 1992-93, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that have displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale.
UNO had an academic effort highlighted by 12 volleyball student-athletes making the Dean's List. The 2010-11 year marks the 12th straight time the team has earned the AVCA's annual honor and its 15th overall award.
“The UNO volleyball team is extremely focused and competitive in the classroom and on the court,” Head Coach Rose Shires said. “As a coach, I feel that student-athletes come to UNO first and foremost for an outstanding education and secondly to compete at the highest level in the sport of volleyball. I'm very proud of what our student-athletes have accomplished and the culture of academic success that the team upholds.”
