Final Stats
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The UNO men's soccer team capped its non-conference portion of the schedule with a 2-0 loss at Milwaukee on Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers scored twice in the first half to take control of the game. The Mavericks fell to 4-8-1 on the season, while Milwaukee improved to 7-4-2 and remained unbeaten in its last five games.
Aaron Horvat started the scoring in the 17th minute when he headed home an easy shot on the goal line after goalie Josh Christensen had deflected a shot by Robbie Boyd.
In the 36th minute, Milwaukee's leading scorer, Laurie Bell, tallied his sixth goal of the season after a scramble in the box. Horvat took back-to-back shots from the left side of the box that Christensen made saves on, but the final rebound bounced toward the center of the box, where Bell finished it into the middle of the net to make it 2-0.
The Mavs' best scoring chance came in the 55th minute when Emir Alihodzic's blast from 25 yards out passed just over the crossbar. Houston Hoffman and Jake Linden each had shots on goal for the Mavericks in the game. Craig Buettner added a header from close range in the 85th minute that was cleared by a Milwaukee defender before threatening the Panther net.
The Panthers outshot UNO 21-11 overall and 12-2 in shots on goal. Christensen made nine saves in his first start of the season.
The Mavericks begin their final three-game stretch of conference play at Kansas City on Saturday at 1 p.m.
