Mavs Sign Seven in First Division I Class

OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Nebraska Omaha women's soccer program announced the addition of seven student-athletes for the 2012 season, UNO's first in the Division I Summit League.
The 2012 class - the Mavericks' first since its transition to Division I last March - comprises four in-state recruits and three out-of-state recruits and features plenty of championship and national-level club experience. All seven players will be freshmen at UNO in the fall of 2012.
Hannah Wampler and Morgan Westenburg, both products of powerhouse Lincoln Southeast, played club soccer for Toro Bravo - one of the top teams in the nation for the past few years and one of Nebraska's all-time most accomplished club soccer teams. In 2008, Toro Bravo won the USYSA Region II Championship and was one of the four finalists at the USYSA National Championships. Toro Bravo captured the 2011 Midwest Regional League championship and recently won the 2011-12 USYSA National League Red Division, finishing the year ranked the second-best club team in the nation.
At Southeast last year, Wampler scored 19 goals and 10 assists for the Knights at forward, while Westenburg was named team MVP as a centerback. Wampler was a Lincoln Journal Star First-Team Super State selection, while Westenburg earned all-state honors after the duo combined to help Southeast to a 16-3 record and a state runner-up finish.
Haley Shelton, a Kansas City, Mo., native and senior at Park Hill South High School, earned conference defensive player of the year honors and was a second-team all-state selection after her junior season. Like Toro Bravo, Shelton's club team, KC United Metros, also participated in the USYSA Midwest Regional League and National League.
Layla Ashouri, an attacking player from Parker, Colo., also has a club state championship to her credit with Rush Nike in 2009 and a USYSA Region IV Tournament appearance. Ashouri also played on a two-time 3v3 regional champion team and has been a varsity starter at Chaparral High School each year of her career. Ashouri was named to the 5A Continental League Colorado State Second Team after her junior year at Chaparral High School in 2010-11.
Katlyn Nimtz, another attacker from Allen, Texas, helped her Dallas Texans Red club team finish first in the prestigious Lake Highlands Girls Classic League Division I. Nimtz missed most of her junior season at Allen High School to injury, but was a first-team all-district selection as a sophomore after leading Allen in scoring. Nimtz also played club soccer with Solar Soccer Club in 2008-09 and had 34 goals and 10 assists to lead her team.
Finally, Omaha natives Jean Snyder (Elkhorn South) and Alex Wichman (Omaha Burke) will join the Mavericks as walk-ons in 2012. Snyder is a defender from Elkhorn South who played high school soccer in Washington last year and played for the Chicago Fire club team during her sophomore year. She has also been a team member of Toro Bravo and owns six club state championships throughout her playing career. Wichman earned Omaha World-Herald All-State and All-Metro Honorable Mention following her junior season at Burke last year after helping the Bulldogs to a 19-3 record and a district title and state tournament appearance, as well as four other tournament titles throughout the year.
The Mavericks, who will play their first full Summit League schedule next season, are replacing three seniors but returning eight starters. Danielle Archuleta will be the Mavs' lone senior next season.

Earned Lincoln Journal Star All-State and All-City honors and was voted Lincoln Southeast's team MVP following her junior season as a centerback in 2010-11...helped the Knights to a 16-3 record and a Class A State Tournament runner-up finish...started at centerback as a sophomore and lettered as an outside mid as a freshman...played club soccer with Toro Bravo...won the 2008 U.S. Youth Soccer Region II championship and the 2011 Midwest Regional League...also captured the 2011-12 U.S. Youth Soccer National League Red Division and finished the year ranked second in the nation...was a four-year honor roll member and academic letterwinner...carried a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and ranked in the top three percent of her class...earned an academic all-state award and was a National Honor Society member...earned a spot on the Athletic Wall of Honor at Lincoln Southeast.

Alex Wichman, D, 5-7, Omaha, Neb. (Omaha Burke)
A walk-on defender from Omaha Burke, earned Omaha World-Herald All-State and All-Metro Honorable Mention following her junior season in 2010-11...helped the Bulldogs to a 19-3 record and a district title and state tournament appearance, as well as four other tournament championships during the season...as a sophomore, earned athletic honorable mention while helping the Bulldogs to a district title and a state tournament appearance...started as a freshman on varsity...played club soccer with Omaha FC 93/94 Black...earned a 4.1 GPA at Burke and ranked in the top 20 percent of her class.

Was named to the 5A Continental League Colorado State Second Team after her junior year at Chaparral High School in 2010-11...captained the Wolverines to a 9-4-4 record and to the state playoff quarterfinals...earned 5A Continental League Colorado State Honorable Mention following her freshman and sophomore seasons...scored three goals and four assists as a sophomore while playing midfield and forward...started on varsity as a freshman and was the team's leading goal scorer with eight goals and two assists from her forward position...played club soccer with Real Colorado National U18 and Rush Nike...won the 2009 state championship with Rush Nike and was a state finalist in 2010 with Real Colorado National...was a two-time 3v3 regional champion in 2009 and 2010 and a world finalist in 2008.
