SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Omaha men's golf team is in eighth place after the first day of play in the Jackrabbit Fall Invitational hosted by South Dakota State.
The Mavericks, playing with just four players because they are also competing in a tournament at Kansas State beginning Monday, shot a team score of 622 after the first 36 holes at the Minnehaha Country Club. North Dakota State leads the event after firing a score of 579, five strokes ahead of host South Dakota State. Northern Iowa is third at 587.
Freshman Mitch Ryan shot UNO's top score of the day with a total of 152 over the first 36 holes. He is tied for 20th overall. Fellow freshman Reid Weibe shot 154 to put him second for the Mavs and in a tie for 30th overall. Michael Shukis is third for UNO with a total score of 155, good for a tie for 37th. Alex Holtan shot 161, putting him in fourth for UNO and 44th overall.
The final round begins on Monday at 9 a.m.
