Mavs Back in Action Against South Dakota

After a nearly two-week break from game action, the Omaha women's soccer team begins Summit League play Friday against South Dakota at 4 p.m. at the UNO Soccer Field. Live stats will be available at OMavs.com.
The Teams
UNO enters with a 2-5-2 overall record but is 2-2-2 in its last six games with both losses coming by just one goal. The Mavs' 1.33 goals per game is a big improvement on last year's 0.78 goals per game. UNO is in the midst of a great opportunity to get healthy before conference play gears up. The Mavs last played on Sept. 22, and Friday's game against South Dakota is the only one the Mavs will play in an 18-day span. Melanie McCormick leads the Mavericks with four goals and one assist for nine points. Monica Bosiljevac has seven points on three goals and one assist. Chelsi Rohloff has five points on a goal and three assists. A total of seven different Mavericks have scored a goal this season and 11 Mavs have at least one point. After scoring 14 goals all of last year, the Mavericks have already tallied 12 through nine games this season.
South Dakota went 5-3-3 in non-conference play. The Coyotes have seen five of their 11 games go to overtime this year. In Mandy Green's first three seasons as head coach, the Coyotes compiled seven total wins. They are trending upwards though, having accumulated five wins already this season before conference play. USD most recently lost at home to Drake, 3-2, in overtime, on Sept. 26. Freshman Jamie Karch leads the Coyotes with six goals and one assist for 13 points. Danielle Anderson has 11 points on four goals and three assists. Rebecca Sparkman has seven points on two goals and three assists. Mackenzie Viktor has started all 11 games in goal and has a 1.40 goals against average and .761 save percentage.

The Mavericks are 14-0 all-time against the Coyotes. UNO defeated South Dakota in Vermillion last season, 3-2, for Don Klosterman's 200th career win.
Last Time Out
The Omaha women's soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw with Missouri State on Sept. 22 at the UNO Soccer Field in the final non-conference game of the season for UNO. Missouri State cracked the scoreboard first in the 66th minute on a goal by Molly Huber. But going into the wind, the Mavericks had a quick answer. Monica Bosiljevac collected the ball in the center of the pitch 30 yards from goal and fired a shot over the keeper's hands to tie the game 1-1 in the 69th minute. It was Bosiljevac's third goal of the season and second in as many games. The Mavs were unlucky not to take the lead in the 77th minute when Chelsi Rohloff hit the post. Her shot bounced off the left post and rolled across the goal line before Stamp picked it up. MSU outshot UNO 17-11 overall and 7-6 in shots on goal. Meaghn Clark finished with six saves.
