OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha hockey team moved up to 14 in the latest poll from the website USCHO.com. The Mavericks continue to receive votes but do not appear in the top 15 ranked by USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine.
The Mavericks were ranked 16th last week when they earned a two-game road sweep of Alaska Anchorage.
The top five teams in both polls are the same as last week. Quinnipiac takes the top spot followed by Minnesota, Miami, Boston College and New Hampshire. The other WCHA teams ranked in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine top 15 poll include North Dakota (6), St. Cloud State (8), Minnesota State (9) and Denver (10). Those teams hold the same spots in the USCHO.com top 20 poll except St. Cloud State which is ranked seventh. Wisconsin also appears at 18.
The Mavericks are 18-12-2 overall and 14-8-2 in the WCHA, good for second place. They trail St. Cloud State by one point, but the Huskies have two games in hand as do the two teams that sit in third place, Minnesota and North Dakota.
UNO takes a week off from league play, hosting an exhibition game against the U.S. National Team Development Program on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:37 p.m.
