HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The UNO men's tennis team wrapped up play at Spring Break Tennis at Hilton Head Island with a 4-3 win over Kutztown (Pa.) on Friday.
The Mavericks improved to 4-6 on the season with their first win at the tournament in four days. Kutztown dropped to 4-4.
In doubles play, the Mavs picked up two wins in the three matches to take the point, which turned out to be the decisive point as the teams split the singles matches 3-3.
Carlos Ramos Salazar and Conner Tieszen combined for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Rushi Amin and Matthew Maguire. Matt Frost and Nathan Greteman also won, defeating Parth Girme and Rich Lichtenwalner, 8-2. Kutztown's Ben Nace and Kenny Beebe edged Peter Greteman and John Ellis, 8-7, in the final doubles match.
In singles play, Tieszen earned a 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Amin at No. 1. Maguire defeated Ellis to get Kutztown a point at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-3. Frost dominated Lichtenwalner, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. Ramos Salazar won 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 4 singles over Patricio Hernandez. Nace beat Peter Greteman, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles, and Bilawal Suri defeated Nathan Greteman, 7-5, 2-6, 10-8, in the No. 6 match.
