WAYNE, Neb. - Amanda Vorthmann broke a 29-year-old school record, and Sami Spenner set two others for the Omaha Track and Field Team at the Wildcat Classic at Wayne State on Saturday.

Vorthmann broke the school record in the 10,000 meters, running a time of 36:15.97. The previous record of 36:34.01 was set by Cheryl Fonley in 1984. Vorthmann won the event, one in which the Mavericks had five of the top six finishers. Kristin Rogers set a personal best with a time of 39:24.22, good for third place. MiKayla Peck was fourth at 40:04.38, Kristen Carmichael was fifth at 40:29.63, and Kayla Fenske was sixth at 40:50.60.

Spenner broke the school record in the long jump with a leap of 20-02 1/4, good for first place. She broke the mark that had been co-held by Anastasia Kyvelidou (2005) and current teammate Kathie-Lee Laidley, who equaled Kyvelidou's mark of 19-11 in 2011. Laidley was second on Saturday with a mark of 19-04 1/4 while Denneil Shaw was third at 18-03 1/4.

The Mavericks earned several other first place finishes on the track. Katarina Zarudnaya won the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:51.50. Ashley Kildow was second at 4:56.71, and Lydia Martin was fourth at 5:01.31. All three marks were personal bests.

Lauren Psota won the 800 meters in a time of 2:22.55, a new PR. Kildow was third with her own PR of 2:24.22.

Nicole Behm won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:32.97 and took third in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:10.03. Teammate Madeline Glesinger won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:08.86.

Spenner won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.58, edging Laidley at 14.62. Celeste Robinson was eighth at 16.34.

Karo Garcia was third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19.59.90 while teammate Avery Schmidt was fifth at 20:45.59. Both times were PRs for the UNO freshmen.

In other field events, Spenner took first in the triple jump with a distance of 40-07, a mark that would have broken her school record, but the mark was wind aided. Shaw was second at 37-06 3/4, and Jessica Ripp was fourth at 35-07 1/4.

Lianne McNaughton was eighth in the shot put with a mark of 42-01 1/4.

The Mavericks are back in action on Saturday, April 6 at the Dakota Duals hosted by South Dakota State.
