Hansen Inks Patterson to NLI for 2013-14

OMAHA, Neb. – Devin Patterson has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Omaha men's basketball program in 2013-14, head coach Derrin Hansen announced Tuesday.
Patterson, a 5-11, 160-pound point guard, played one year for coach James Miller at New Mexico Junior College, the program which also produced current Maverick guard Alex Phillips. As a freshman in 2012-13, Patterson averaged 5.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 2.1 assists per game for NMJC. As a team, the Thunderbirds finished 26-7 overall and 12-4 in conference play and advanced to the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.
During his senior year at Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Va., Patterson was named first-team All-Eastern District after averaging 15.5 points per game. His junior year included a state championship, and Norcom was nationally ranked at the conclusion of the season.
“We're excited for the signing of Devin Patterson and what he will bring to our basketball team,” Hansen said. “As a true point guard, he can defend 94 feet. He's always looking to create for others and play fast, and that is obviously our style. We look for Devon to be an immediate contributor to our program.”
