Mavericks Picked Sixth in League's Preseason Poll

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the 2014-15 Summit League Preseason Poll, and senior guard CJ Carter was named second-team preseason All-Summit, the conference office announced Wednesday. The poll was tallied in a vote of the league's head coaches, communications personnel and media.
Fort Wayne was the favorite to win the Summit League, garnering 13 first-place votes for 450 points. Denver was second and received 12 first-place votes for 437 points. Oral Roberts, which returns to the Summit League after one season in the Southland Conference, placed third with 400 points, followed by South Dakota State in fourth with 345 points and one vote. North Dakota State received four votes and had 313 points to come in fifth, followed by Omaha (245), Western Illinois (151), South Dakota (148) and IUPUI (75) to round out the poll.
Carter was among six players named to the Preseason All-Summit Second Team. As a junior in 2013-14, he earned honorable mention All-Summit recognition after averaging 13.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Carter, a product of Omaha Benson, shot .422 from the field and from long range and .782 at the free throw line, and he helped the Mavericks to their first Division I postseason appearance with two games in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT).
The 2014-15 season marks Omaha's final year of Division I reclassification before assuming full eligibility next year. The Mavericks open the season on Sunday, Nov. 16, hosting Central Arkansas at Ralston Arena at 4 p.m.
