Former GK Coach Holt Signs with Philadelphia Union

Former Omaha men's soccer goalie coach Brian Holt has signed a professional contract with Philadelphia Union of the MLS, the squad announced on Monday.
Holt, 25, joined the UNO staff as the goalkeeper coach prior to the 2012 season and worked with the Mavs' goalies in his offseason. He helped mentor UNO goalie Matt Grosey, who went on to earn All-Summit League Second-Team honors. With Holt's assistance, the Mavs reduced their goals allowed from 39 in 2011 to 28 in 2012 to 21 in 2013.
Holt was an NSCAA First-Team All-American goalie at Creighton in 2011, helping the Bluejays to the NCAA College Cup, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Following his collegiate career, Holt trained with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer League. The City Islanders advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Holt is also a Reading United AC alum, having played for the USL PDL team in 2011, where he was an All-Eastern Conference selection.
Holt set an NCAA record with his 0.207 goals against average, and he was named MVC Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the NCAA with a 92.3 save percentage and 17 shutouts. Holt finished his career with an NCAA-record 44 shutouts. His 0.62 career GAA stands as a school and Missouri Valley Conference record.
Holt won the Lowe's Senior Class Award and also was named CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year as the top Division I Men's Soccer Academic All-American. He was also a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, awarded anually to the top college soccer player in the nation.
The Omaha, Neb., native was named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2008 before receiving All-MVC Second-Team honors during his sophomore and junior seasons. He won three MVC Defensive Player of the Week awards and one College Soccer News National Player of the Week award in his career.
