Horkey Finishes Second at Tournament in Italy

OMAHA, Neb. -- Incoming Omaha volleyball freshman Mackenzie Horkey's club team, Northern Lights 18-1, finished as runner-up at the Memorial Ferruccio Cornacchia Tournament in Pordenone, Italy last month.
Northern Lights lost to the Slovenian Junior National Team in the championship match, 25-27, 20-25, 21-25. Horkey's squad had previously gone 5-0 in pool play, defeating the Swiss Junior National Team (3-0), IDEA Volley (3-1), Vittorio Veneto (3-0), the German Junior National Team (3-0) and the Argentinian Junior National Team (3-0).
Horkey had two double-doubles in pool play, with 10 kills and 12 digs against IDEA Volley, as well as 10 kills and 14 digs against Argentina. She hit. 500 (7-for-14) over Vittorio Veneto and closed out the tournament with eight kills and eight digs against Slovenia.
Horkey, a 5-9 outside hitter from Jordan, Minn., will join the Maverick program in 2014.
