Hansen Inks Reed to NLI for 2014-15

OMAHA, Neb. -- Transfer Randy Reed II has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Omaha men's basketball program in 2014-15, head coach Derrin Hansen announced Monday.
A 6-6, 200-pound guard, Reed comes to the Mavericks from St. Louis Community College, where he played for his father, Coach Randy Reed Sr. He earned third-team All-America honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association in 2013-14, averaging 21.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting .491 from the field. Reed was also named all-region and the region's player of the year while helping his team to regional and district championships and an eighth-place national finish.
Reed began his collegiate career with two seasons at Quincy University under Coach Marty Bell. As a redshirt freshman, he averaged 1.7 points per game and had a season-best eight points at Iowa.
As a high school player, Reed played at Crossroads Prep in Indianapolis, Ind. for Coach Stephen Abdul-Hamid. A four-year letterwinner, he earned all-state and all-conference honors. Also his conference's player of the year as a senior, Reed averaged 19.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game and closed his career as a member of the 1,000 Point Club.
Reed also lettered in track & field at Crossroads and played AAU ball for St. Louis Gateway Adidas for Coach Vernon Hemphill.
"We're excited about the addition of Randy to our program," Hansen said. "He had a great year at St. Louis Community College playing for his father last year, and he will now put us closer to where we want to be with our wing position in the coming season. Randy is a great kid and student, and we're looking forward to him being here this summer for class and workouts."
