Mavs Announce Three Signings

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha men's soccer program announced its three newcomers for the 2014 squad on Wednesday.
Omaha high school standouts Michael Jaime and Quinn Nelson join Iowa Western junior transfer Andres Irvin as the Mavs' new players for the upcoming season, which begins with the South Omaha Classic against the Nebraska club team on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Omaha South High School.
Jaime was widely regarded as the best field player in the state the past two seasons, while Nelson was recognized as the top goalkeeper. Jaime, a natural left-footed defender with the ability to attack as well, played all over the field for the Omaha South Packers and was the 2014 Gatorade Nebraska Boys Soccer Player of the Year and a two-time Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska captain and Lincoln Journal Star Super State captain. As a senior, Jaime played most of the season at center back but still managed 11 goals and five assists to lead Omaha South to a state tournament appearance. He tallied 30 goals and 13 assists as a junior playing both center back and midfield for the undefeated and state champion Packers. Jaime is the third straight Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska captain to sign with the Mavericks, joining Mark Moulton and Logan Mendez.
Nelson was a standout goalie at Westside, helping the Warriors to two state runner-up appearances in his four-year career. He posted eight shutouts in his senior season, including against top-ranked Creighton Prep in a state semifinal win. Nelson allowed more than one goal in a match only three times all season and was an Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska selection and Lincoln Journal Star Super State selection. Nelson won four State Cup titles with OFC Elite I 94/95 from 2010-13.
Irvin, a Salt Lake City, Utah native, was a versatile player for the 2013 NJCAA National Champion Iowa Western Reivers. Irvin helped IWCC to a perfect 25-0 record by posting seven goals and three assists, playing as a forward, central midfielder and wide midfielder. Irvin scored a goal for Iowa Western in a 2014 spring scrimmage against the Mavericks and displayed good movement off the ball. He starred at Highland High School in Salt Lake City, earning Class 4A second-team honors as a senior.
