This Weekend
The Omaha volleyball team hits the road this weekend for its final regular-season tournament, traveling to the Emerald Beach Islanders Classic, Sept. 19-20, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Action kicks off on Friday against host Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 11 a.m. at Dugan Wellness Center, followed by a 5 p.m. match with Incarnate Word. On Saturday, the Mavericks face Boise State at 11 a.m. and UT-Pan American at 5 p.m. Links to live stats and video will be available for all four matches on OMavs.com.
Scouting the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders
Texas A&M Corpus Christi enters the weekend with a record of 4-7 (0-0 Southland) after dropping three straight at last weekend's Long Beach State/Loyola Marymount Tournament in Los Angeles, Calif. The Islanders opened with a 3-2 win over St. Mary's (Calif.), then fell to Loyola Marymount (3-2), Long Beach State (3-0) and Northern Colorado (3-2).
Brianna Brink, who was a preseason first-team All-Southland pick and earned all-conference honorable mention status a year ago, leads the Islanders with 3.36 kills per set this season. Madeleine Doud also has a team-best 1.03 blocks per set. Head coach Tony Graystone is in his sixth year at TAMUCC, carrying a record of 79-90 at the school and a career mark of 394-153 over 16 years of coaching.
This weekend marks the first meeting all-time between Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Omaha.
Scouting the Incarnate Word Cardinals
Incarnate Word enters the weekend with a record of 3-7 (0-0 Southland) after last weekend's Texas Tech Tournament in Lubbock, Texas. The Cardinals began with a 3-0 loss to Texas Tech, then rebounded with a 3-2 win over Texas State and a 3-0 sweep of Gardner-Webb.
Angelique Vidaurri leads the team with 2.85 kills per set, while the Cardinals' leading blockers are Meaghan Patterson and Bryaunea Hall with 0.69 blocks per set. Head coach Jennifer Montoya is in her 12th year at Incarnate Word with a career record of 162-193.
Omaha leads the all-time series with Incarnate Word, 1-0. The two teams last squared off on Sept. 10, 2010 at the Angelo State Invitational in San Angelo, Texas, with the Mavericks taking a 3-0 victory.
Scouting the Boise State Broncos
Boise State enters the weekend with a record of 4-5 (0-0 Mountain West) after last weekend's Nike Invitational in Moscow, Idaho. The Broncos fell 3-0 to Missouri and 3-1 to host Idaho before redeeming themselves with a 3-0 sweep of Eastern Washington.
BSU was picked sixth in the Mountain West Preseason Coaches' Poll released last month. This season, Sierra Nobley leads Boise State with 3.48 kills per set, which is third in the Mountain West. Head coach Shawn Garus is in his sixth year with the Bronco program, holding a record of 80-85 at the school and a career mark of 195-205.
This weekend marks the first meeting all-time between Omaha and Boise State.
Scouting the UT-Pan American Broncs
UT-Pan American enters the weekend with a record of 2-9 (0-0 WAC) after going 1-2 at last weekend's Louisiana Tech Invitational. The Broncs fell 3-1 to both Louisiana Tech and Stephen F. Austin before earning a 3-1 win over New Orleans to snap a three-match losing streak.
Haley Durham was named to the Preseason All-WAC Team. Durham was selected to last weekend's Louisiana Tech Invitational All Tournament Team after averaging 3.92 kills per set on .378 hitting, along with 0.67 blocks per set. Head coach Brian Yale is in his fourth year at UTPA, holding a career record of 32-72.
UT-Pan American leads the all-time series with Omaha, 1-0. The two teams last played on Aug. 31, 2013, with the Broncs taking a 3-0 decision at the Houston Baptist Tournament in Houston, Texas.

Omaha claims three of the top five blockers in the Summit League after the first three weeks of the season. Redshirt freshman Amanda Conlin leads the conference with 1.86 blocks per set, while junior middle blocker Megan Schmale is fourth (1.22) and junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer is fifth (1.11). Last weekend at the Billiken Invitational, Conlin paced the Mavericks with 2.00 blocks per set over three matches.
As a team, the Mavericks are second in the league with 2.83 blocks per set, 102 total blocks and 184 block assists.
