Mavs Welcome Leathernecks, Coyotes This Weekend

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team is back in action this weekend with a pair of Summit League matches at Caniglia Field. The Western Illinois Leathernecks visit UNO on Friday evening. Start time is set for 7 p.m. South Dakota comes to Omaha for a noon match on Sunday.
Last weekend, the Mavericks split a pair of Summit League matches. Omaha topped IUPUI in double overtime on Lydia Holtmann's golden goal, 2-1. On Sunday, UNO dropped a decision at Fort Wayne, 2-1.

About Omaha
Omaha is looking to pick up points this weekend with two league matches. The Mavs are in a four-way tie for fourth place in the standings. The Leathernecks (2-9 overall, 1-1 Summit League) and Coyotes (4-10, 1-2) are tied with the Mavericks with three points.
Chelsi Rohloff leads the team with 11 points off five goals this season. Lydia Holtmann is second on the team in points (5) and one assist (1). Courtney Neville leads the team with two assists.
Goalkeepers Haley Shelton and Katlyn Schochenmaier have split time in goal this season for the Mavericks. Schochenmaier has taken over the starting job this season and has appeared in 12 games with nine starts. She is 4-6-1 on the season with a 1.52 goals-against average and a .782 save percentage. Schochenmaier has earned two Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. Shelton has four starts and a 0-2-1 record with a 2.97 goals-against average and a .633 save percentage.

Players to watch:
Senior Goalkeeper Victoria Kappel is a four year starter for the Leathernecks and has won two league Defensive Player of the Week awards in her career.
- Stats: 2-8 record, 2.08 goals-against average, .662 save pct.
Senior midfielder Skyler Jessop is a three time Summit League Distinguished Scholar and four-year starter.
- Stats: 11 games played/11 starts, 4 goals, 4 points, 20 shots.
Leatherneck Notes:
- The Leathernecks are coming off an exciting 3-2 win at Oral Roberts to pick up its first Summit League win of the year.
- WIU snapped an eight game winless streak with the win at Oral Roberts.
- Head Coach Dr. Ted Flogaites is in his fourth year at WIU. Dr. Flogaites led the Leathernecks into the playoffs in 2012. He spent five seasons at Hastings College in Nebraska taking the Broncos to the NAIA Championship game in 2010. Flogaites Named 2010 Brine-NAIA Women's Soccer National Coach of the Year.
Series vs. Western Illinois
The two programs have met four times. The Mavericks trail in the all-time series, 3-1.
Last season in Macomb, Hannah Wampler scored the game's first goal. Western Illinois' Sarah Hall scored two goals to lead the Leathernecks to victory, 2-1.
Covering the Coyotes
Players to watch:
Junior forward Courtney Strang earned second team All-Summit League honors last season for USD. She had 15 points last season on five goals and five assists. Strang scored a pair of goals in the Coyotes first-ever win over Denver on Oct. 4.
- Stats: 14 games played/starts, three goals, three assists, nine points, and 29 shots.
Freshman Forward Sammie Villwock earned all-conference, all-area and all-sectional honors as a senior in high school after scoring 27 goals and making 16 assists
- Stats: 13 games/10 starts, three goals, two assists, eight points on 21 shots.
- Named Summit League Offensive Player of the Week for her hat trick against Green Bay on Sept. 6.
USD Notes:
- South Dakota has lost three of its last four matches, but defeated Denver 4-1 at home on Oct. 4.
- The Coyotes are 3-4 at home this season, but 1-6 away from Vermillion.
- The NSCAA awarded USD the team academic award for their work in the classroom last season.
- Head Coach Mandy Green is in her sixth season at the helm of the USD program. Green has a 26-66-14 overall record.
Series vs. South Dakota
The two teams have matched up 16 times dating back to 1999. Omaha leads the all-time series, 15-0-1. Last season, the two teams played to a 0-0 tie in Vermillion.
Women's Soccer Earns 14th Straight NSCAA Team Academic Award
The Omaha women's soccer team was recognized as a College Team Academic Award winner by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the organization announced. A total of 859 soccer teams (305 men, 554 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year.
This is the 14th time the Mavericks have been recognized by the NSCAA for their academic performance under Head Coach Don Klosterman. UNO finished the academic year with a 3.37 cumulative GPA.
Omaha was recognized as one of 208 schools to have both their men's and women's programs recognized. This is the fourth consecutive year both Omaha soccer teams have been recognized for their work in the classroom.

The Mavericks wrap-up the road portion of their schedule next weekend with a trip to Tulsa, Okla. Omaha visits Oral Roberts on Sunday, Oct. 25. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Case Soccer Complex.
