Second Half Comeback Sparks Mavericks, 3-1

OMAHA, Neb. – Chelsi Rohloff scored twice late in the second half to propel the Omaha women's soccer team to a come-from-behind victory against Western Illinois, 3-1, on Friday night.
The Mavericks improved to 5-8-2 overall and 2-3 in the Summit League. The Leathernecks dropped to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in league play.
UNO faced an early deficit after allowing a Western Illinois goal just nine minutes into regulation. Omaha struggled to find its rhythm during the first half as the Leathernecks held an edge in shots, 7-4, and shots on goal, 2-1, at the break.
Omaha leveled the game in the 70th minute off a corner kick. Lydia Holtmann played the ball into the box, but it was cleared out by a Western Illinois defender. The ball landed at the feet of Hannah Wampler who was about 25 yards away from goal. Wampler served the ball back into the penalty area and found Courtney Neville. Neville hit a first time shot that found the back of the net for a Maverick goal.
UNO continued to pressure the Leatherneck defense. Natalie Johnson intercepted a pass near midfield and played a pass that split the WIU central defenders. Rohloff was able to get behind the defense and take a shot that beat the Leatherneck keeper for a 2-1 Omaha lead.
Omaha added an insurance goal in the 87th minute on Rohloff's second goal of the game. Emily Michaels was credited with the assist.
The Mavericks outshot the Leathernecks 8-2 in the second half and 12-9 for the game. Rohloff had a game high five shots, four of which were on goal. WIU's Skyler Jessop had four shots.
Katlyn Schochenmaier earned the win by allowing one goal and making two saves. Victoria Kappel made three saves and allowed three goals for Western Illinois.
