Mavericks Blanked by Coyotes, 2-0

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team lost to Summit League foe South Dakota on Sunday afternoon at Caniglia Field, 2-0. With the win the Coyotes improve to 5-11-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Summit League play, while the Mavericks fell to 5-9-2 overall and 2-4 in the league.
In the first half, Omaha had the first scoring opportunity of the game. Lydia Holtmann's corner kick landed at the foot of Kyla Booker. Booker's shot sailed just over the crossbar.
Chelsi Rohloff found an opening in the Coyote defense in the 18th minute, but her shot was stopped by goalkeeper Sydney Hardin.
South Dakota scored in the 28th minute on a nifty play from Corey Strang. Strang received a pass near the edge of the 18-yard box and deftly back heeled a pass to Brenna Bills who was able to place her shot past the Omaha goal keeper.
Layla Ashouri and Jessica Bollinger each had chances to level the score towards the end of the half, but Ashouri's shot was blocked and Bollinger's ball went over the goal. The Mavericks entered the half trailing, 1-0.
UNO had the first scoring chance of the second half as Lydia Holtmann was able to get a clean shot at the USD goal, but Hardin was able to make the stop.
Ava Doetsch pushed up from her defensive position and put a shot on frame in the 66th minute, but Hardin was there for the save. Emily Romero's corner kick found Izzy Anders in the penalty area, but Anders shot was blocked.
USD added an insurance goal in the 80th minute. Strang was able to beat her defender 1-on-1 and placed her shot out of the reach of UNO goalkeeper Katlyn Schochenmaier.  The game ended with the Coyotes holding a 2-0 advantage.
Omaha was outshot on the day, 11-7, and USD also held a 6-3 lead in shots on goal. The Mavericks led in corner kicks, 5-4.
Schochenmaier was strong in goal for UNO and made four saves in the loss. Hardin earned the shut-out by making three shots.
Omaha returns to action at Oral Roberts on Sunday, Oct. 25. Kickoff from the Case Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m.
