Olofsson Invited To Sweden's World Junior Camp
Dec 7, 2015 | Hockey
OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha hockey freshman forward Fredrik Olofsson has been named to Sweden's preliminary roster for the upcoming 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Olofsson is one of just three collegians to make the 26-man roster. Two forwards will eventually be trimmed from the list before the tournament begins on Dec. 26 in Helsinki, Finland. Sweden, a member of Group A along with the United States and Canada, will play its first game against Switzerland on Dec. 26.
Olofsson is fifth in UNO scoring with six goals and six assists for 12 points in 16 games. He's +7 in that stretch and has scored two game-winning goals for the Mavericks. He ranks third in NCHC freshman scoring for all games played.
If selected to the team, the Swedish-born Olofsson, who now lives in Broomfield, Colo., would be the first Maverick to be named to a World Junior Championship roster since Josh Archibald who played for Dean Blais and Team USA in the 2012 tournament.
The Mavericks are off until Dec. 19-20 when they host Arizona State.
