Mavericks Coast Past St. Thomas, 7-2

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- The Omaha women's tennis team concluded its Florida road trip Thursday afternoon, cruising past St. Thomas, 7-2. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 5-10 (2-2 Summit League), while the Bobcats move to 5-9 (3-4 Sun Conference).
The Mavs picked up all three doubles points to take a commanding 3-0 lead. At No. 1, freshman Michelle Lo teamed up with senior Jacqueline Baude to defeat the Bobcat duo of Maria Dimitrova and Ksenia Slavina, 8-1. The No. 2 pairing of sophomore Kenzie Hill and junior Molly Matricardi earned an 8-3 win over Cassandra Lemieux and Victoria Slavina, and sophomores Rebecca Stafford and Allison Johnson finished it off in the No. 3 position, topping Naomi Maehama and Andrea Gonzalez, 8-2.
Omaha then picked up four out of six singles points, beginning with the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 slots. Lo won her match at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1 over Lemieux. Matricardi followed with a victory at No. 2, 7-6(4), 1-6, 10-8 against Victoria Slavina, and Baude was also triumphant in her match defeating Dimitrova at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2.
The Bobcats picked up two points in singles play, recording wins at Nos. 4 and 6. Hill closed the day for Omaha, seizing a win at the No. 5 position and downing Maehama, 6-3, 6-3.
"It was great to end our spring break trip on a high note," head coach Mike Saniuk said. "Our athletes competed hard and are ready to return to the confines of home for two matches next weekend."
Omaha resumes Summit League play next week, hosting Fort Wayne for a conference showdown on Friday, April 3 at Miracle Hill Golf & Tennis Center.
