#euromavs Italy Blog: Post #8

Ciao everyone, this is your guy Thurmanator, aka Big Thurm, aka Tre'Shawn Thurman. If you've been keeping up with any of my tweets on this Italy trip, the guys have still yet to give me a nickname, but they're working on it.
Today we started the day with a tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. There was so much history in one place! We began our tour on the ground floor of the Colosseum, seeing what it looked like around 2,000 years ago. Then we went to the second level, where we walked around the entire Colosseum and saw where the gladiators used to battle and where prisoners were held under the stadium. We also saw original artifacts from the grounds and art in a walk-through museum area. Our tour guide gave us so much information, but one of the most interesting facts was that over 600,000 gladiators fought to their deaths in the Colosseum.
After our tour and a team meal, we headed to Isernia, Italy, to play our second game in two days. The game went as well as it could, as we picked up a 107-31 win. Randy Reed caught a crazy alley-oop today thrown by Tim Smallwood. Everyone played huge minutes for the team, and it was clear that we're becoming closer as a team and a family. We still have a lot to work to do before the season starts, but it's nice to see us making big strides this early. The Isernia crowd also showed us a lot of love after the game, asking us to take pictures and giving an award to Coach Hansen.
After the game, we went to a ristorante just across the street where they served us endless homemade pizza until we couldn't eat another bite. The Isernia team even came in and joined us for dinner! I was so impressed with how they showed us such respect and sportsmanship. Coach Hansen made a toast at dinner and thanked them for their hospitality, and then everyone dug in.
All in all, I have to say it was a really memorable day. We learned a lot, played hard and ate well. Now it's time to head to the hotel and catch some Zs. Buona notte!
