Mavs Cap Preseason With Black/White Scrimmage

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team wrapped up its preseason preparations Saturday afternoon, hosting its annual Black/White Scrimmage at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Omaha White came from behind to defeat Omaha Black in a five set duel (21-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 16-14).
“Our team did a great job of being competitive from the start to finish,“ said head coach Rose Shires. “This is a very competitive team, it's going to be tough choosing starters.”
Sophomore Mackenzie Horkey led Omaha White, finishing with a double-double. She had a match-high 21 kills on .333 hitting and 22 digs. Freshman right side Meagen Roth also recorded a double-double for the white team, finishing with 10 kills and 20 digs.
Sophomore Sydney O'Shaughnessy and senior Kelly Wollak also recorded double-double efforts in the match for Omaha Black. O'Shaughnessy racked up a match-leading 36 assists while adding 16 digs. Wollak totaled 13 kills and 16 digs.
Senior Amy Taylor led the charge on defense for Omaha White, putting up six blocks. Freshman Gessica Gdowski (four) and junior Nicki Carson (three) also helped out on the block.
Omaha opens the 2015 season at the UNLV Invitational, Aug. 28-29, with matches against Seton Hall, host UNLV and Central Arkansas in Las Vegas, Nev. The 2015 campaign will mark the first for Omaha as a full Division I member with postseason eligibility.
