Mavs Drop Season Opener at Iowa, 4-0

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Omaha women's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 4-0 loss to Iowa on Sunday afternoon at the Iowa Soccer Complex.
In the first half, Iowa's Jenna Kentgen opened the scoring tapping in a corner kick from Rachele Armand in the 34th minute.
The Mavericks, in their first ever meeting with Iowa, were outshot 21-6 for the game. Iowa had a 10-2 edge in shots on goal.
Iowa put the game out of reach in the final ten minutes of the game by adding three more goals. Bri Toelle set up Alina Magruder for a goal that just got past a diving Haley Shelton.
Karly Stuenkel made it 3-0 in the 86th minute off a pass from Toelle. The final goal of the game came in the 87th minute as Magruder added her second goal of the game from a Toelle cross.
Kyla Booker had two shots to lead the Mavericks, while four other Omaha players had one shot each.
Shelton made six saves on 10 shots.
Omaha will play its home opener Friday, Aug. 28 against Northern Iowa at 5 p.m. at Caniglia Field.Â
