Mavericks Blanked by Bluejays, 4-0

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Creighton on Friday night. The Mavericks drop to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Bluejays improve to 4-1.
Omaha was on the defensive from the opening whistle and the Bluejays got on the board just 9:50 into the contest. Creighton's Lauren Sullivan took a shot from outside the penalty area that ricocheted off the cross bar and bounced out to Darby Hugunin. Hugunin controlled the rebound and placed her shot past Omaha goalkeeper Haley Shelton.
Omaha went down 2-0 at the 28:23 mark when a defender was called for a foul in the penalty area. Ylenia Sachau converted the ensuing penalty shot. The Bluejays added their third goal of the half with nine seconds left in the half. Jill Richgels sent a corner kick into the box that found the head of Emma Braasch. Braasch headed the ball just over the outstretched hands of Shelton for a 3-0 lead.
The Bluejays added an insurance goal early in the second half as Lauren Sullivan beat a pair of Maverick defenders for the goal.
Courtney Neville had a good opportunity to get Omaha on the board in the 69th minute, but her shot was stopped by the Creighton goalkeeper. Emily Romero forced the Bluejay keeper into another save in the 80th minute.
Creighton outshot Omaha 20-8 for the game and held an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Eight different Mavericks had shots on the evening. Neville, Romero, Lauren Lawler, and Leah Lawler Romero each had a shot on goal.
Shelton played the first half in goal for Omaha and made four saves, while allowing three goals. Katlyn Schochenmaier allowed one goal in the second half while making three saves.
