Women's Soccer Ties North Dakota, 1-1

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Omaha women's soccer team unleashed 25 shots at the North Dakota goal Sunday at Bronson Field in Grand Forks. Only Chelsi Rohloff's shot found the back of the net and the Mavericks ended up with a 1-1 tie in double overtime.
Omaha is now 1-2-2 on the season, while North Dakota is 2-2-1 overall.
The two teams' combined for 52 shots in 110 minutes of play, while the goalkeepers were able to make a total of 24 saves.
Marin Dregelid played a ball in from the right side of the pitch that found Rohloff who beat a defender before placing the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 Omaha lead.
The two teams exchanged some shots for the next 30 minutes without a goal being scored. North Dakota's Kaylee Kebba made a great pass to Katie Moller who took a chance before the Maverick defense could react and was able to score the equalizer in the 35th minute.
In the final 10 minutes of play in the first half, UNO outshot North Dakota, 2-1, but goalkeeper Oliva Swenson was able to keep the score level. Omaha held a 14-12 shot advantage in the first half, with goalkeeper Katlyn Schochenmaier making eight saves.
The Mavericks were able to take seven shots in second half, to North Dakota's 10. Late in the half, the UNO defense withstood a flurry of three UND shots in a 30-second span to maintain the 1-1 tie.
In the first OT, Omaha got shot attempts from Lydia Holtmann and Marin Dregelid, but neither shot found the back of the net.
In the final overtime, freshman Cydney Skinner's shot came close to scoring the game winner, but Swenson came up with a game-saving stop.
UNO totaled 25 shots in the match, with seven coming from Holtmann, while Dregelid added four and Rohloff three. In goal, Schochenmaier had a strong game, making a career high 15 saves. The 15 saves also ties a program record set in 2001 by Heidi Bargmann against Northern Colorado.
North Dakota had 27 shots and was led by Zoe Foster with five, while Kirsten Olson and Sabrina Majerczyk had four shots each.
The Mavericks will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11, as the team hosts Drake. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Caniglia Field.
