Nov 2, 2016 | Women's Soccer
OMAHA, Neb. – Two Omaha women's soccer players – senior defender Ava Doetsch and freshman midfielder Sophia Roux – were named to the 2016 All-Summit Women's Soccer Teams, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Doetsch earned a spot on the All-Summit Second Team, while Roux was named to the All-Summit League Freshmen Team.Â
Doetsch was instrumental in helping the Mavericks reduce their goals-against average from 1.89 in 2015 to 1.26 this season. The Mavericks also allowed 54 fewer shots in 2016. Doetsch started 18 games and logged a team-best 1,569 minutes. She had one goal and 15 shots.
Roux was recognized for a strong first year by being named one of The Summit League's top 11 freshmen. The Medina, Minn., native started 11 games and had one assist. Roux's assist came in a 1-0 win against South Dakota State on Oct. 21.
Oral Roberts' Lexi Jones was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Denver center back Makenzie Bothner earned Defensive Player of the Year. DU's Brittany Wilson was Goalkeeper of the Year, and ORU coach Roger Bush was named Coach of the Year. Denver freshman Hannah Adler was the Freshman of the Year.Â
