Mavericks Make Change To Women's Soccer Staff

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Athletics announced today that the contract of women's soccer head coach Don Klosterman will not be renewed.
"Don has been a valued member of the UNO Athletic department, building our women's soccer program from the beginning," said Mike Kemp, Associate Athletic Director who oversees women's soccer. "He took a fledgling program to the NCAA championship game in just four seasons and three years later, won a national championship.
"Unfortunately, the women's soccer program has not had the success we expected following our transition to Division I, and so we have elected to move in a different direction at this time."
In 18 seasons as the head coach, Klosterman led the Mavericks to a record of 219-119-21. In that time, the Mavericks won the Division II national championship in 2005 and made eight consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament from 2002 to 2009. He was named the NSCAA National Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2005, was the NSCAA Central Region Coach of the Year three times and the North Central Conference Coach of the Year twice.
Klosterman also coached nine NSCAA All-Americans, one ESPN: The Magazine All-American and one NCC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
In 25 seasons as a head coach which includes stops as men's coach at his alma mater, Benedictine (1979-83), and Creighton (1984-86), Klosterman is 271-180-30.
"We will begin a national search for a new head coach immediately," said Kemp. "Given all that UNO has to offer with respect to the facility, the campus and the community, we feel that this will be a very attractive opportunity for interested candidates."
