Two Weekend Matches Ahead for Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis team travel to Springfield, Mo., this weekend for a pair of matches with Missouri State and SEMO. The Mavericks take on MSU on Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m., then stay in Springfield for another match on Saturday, March 6 with SEMO at 1 p.m.
Omaha enters the weekend at 4-5 (0-1 Summit League) after dropping its conference opener against Oral Roberts, 5-2, on Feb. 27.
Freshman Janelle Wilson was the lone Maverick to earn a singles victory against ORU, defeating Andrada Gordan, 7-6, 3-1. Omaha won the doubles point against the Golden Eagles with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. The No. 2 team of senior Molly Matricardi and junior Rebecca Stafford defeated Andrada Gordan/Ceijenia Cornelius, 6-4, and the No. 3 team of junior Kenzie Hill and freshman Janelle Wilson topped Brenda Mercado Jove/Valentina Gisbert, 6-4.
Missouri State enter the match with a 2-10 overall record. The Bears lost their last home match to Saint Louis, 7-0, on Feb. 26. They are led by Faty Khamissi, who sports a 4-6 singles record. MSU leads the all-time series with Omaha, 1-0.
SEMO comes into the weekend with a record of 1-4. The Redhawks dropped their last match to Lipscomb, 5-2, on Feb. 26. SEMO is led by Mila Majtan who has a record of 1-3 at No. 1 singles. The Redhawks lead the all-time series against Omaha, 1-0.
The next match for Omaha will be a road contest at Nebraska on Saturday, March 12 at 3 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
