Hansen Inks Norl to NLI for 2016-17

OMAHA, Neb. – Shooting guard Daniel Norl has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Omaha men's basketball program in 2016-17, head coach Derrin Hansen announced Thursday.
Norl, a 6-3, 200-pound guard from Clarksville, Tenn., comes to Omaha from Mineral Area Community College, where he played for coach Luke Strege in 2015-16. Norl earned NJCAA Division I All-Region 16 and first-team All-MCCAC recognition, averaging 10.5 points per game. He shot 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 75 percent at the free throw line, and he led his team to a 25-5 record and a No. 18 national ranking.
Norl began his collegiate career at Eastern Kentucky in 2014-15, appearing in 11 games in reserve for the Colonels.
At Kenwood High School, Norl lettered four years for coach John Stigall and scored over 1,650 points in his career. As a senior, he garnered all-state, all-region and all-district awards after averaging 20.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. That year, Kenwood finished 26-7, and Norl was a finalist for Tennessee's Class AAA Mr. Basketball Award. As a junior, he averaged 18.8 points per game and shot 48 percent from the floor, 46 percent from the field and 82 percent at the stripe.
Norl was also a two-time area player of the year and earned all-district and all-area accolades three straight seasons. He helped his Kenwood squads set school records for wins as a sophomore and junior and led the team to its first regular-season district championship. Norl also played for the D13 Elite AAU program under coach Dominique Redding.
"We're excited to have Daniel join our program," Hansen said. "His previous experience at the Division I level and his skill set can help our program immediately. We've known Luke Strege, who coached Daniel at Eastern Kentucky and Mineral Area, for a long time, and we know Daniel comes well prepared to succeed at Omaha. We look forward to working with him and seeing what he brings to our team."
