OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha head coach Don Klosterman announced the Mavericks 2016 schedule, featuring three matches against teams that reached the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
"We are excited about our 2016 schedule as it is a good mix of opponents," said Coach Klosterman. "We will see some familiar faces in the non-conference portion, but we also added teams we normally don't see and we are excited about the challenges and opportunities those opponents afford us."
Six of the first seven matches during the 2016 regular season will be at Caniglia Field. The season opener comes on Aug. 19 against UMKC.
Two non-conference rivalry games are next on the schedule, as UNO hosts crosstown rival Creighton on Aug. 26 and then welcomes North Dakota on Aug. 28. UNO wraps up its four-game home stand against Big 12 member Kansas State on Sept. 4.
UNO's first road test of the season comes on Sept. 9 at Missouri State, before returning home for games against Dayton (Sept. 11) and Eastern Washington (Sept. 14).
Omaha will play two matches in Colorado Sept. 16-18. UNO will face NCAA Tournament qualifier Northern Colorado on Friday, before visiting Colorado State on Sunday.
The Mavericks conclude non-conference play in California. UNO takes on NCAA Tournament qualifier Loyola Marymount on Sept. 23 before playing Cal. State Northridge two days later.
"Northern Colorado and Loyola Marymount were NCAA Tournament teams last season," added Klosterman. "UMKC won 14 games this past season and both Dayton and Eastern Washington present us with new challenges. We feel that this non-conference slate will prepare us well for the rigors of the Summit League."
The Summit League schedule has the Mavericks playing three straight home matches. UNO kicks off conference play against 2015 regular season champion North Dakota State on Sept. 29. Oral Roberts comes to Omaha on Oct. 7 followed by IPFW two days later.
The Mavericks head east to play at IUPUI on Oct. 14 and at Western Illinois on Oct. 9.
The final third of the Summit League schedule sees Omaha play its final home game against Summit League tournament champion South Dakota State on Oct. 21. The Mavericks' final two games in the regular season see UNO visiting South Dakota on Oct. 28 and Denver on Oct. 30.
