LINCOLN, Neb. – The Omaha women's golf team is in 10th place after the first day of play at the Chip-N Club Invitational hosted by Nebraska.
The Mavericks shot a team score of 321 in the first round at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course. Kansas State has the lead after the first 18 holes with a score of 292. Florida International is next at 302, and South Dakota State is third, one stroke back.
Junior Megan Vetrovsky is tied for fifth in the field after shooting a first-round score of 74, tying her season low.
Freshman Samantha Chong is second on the team and tied for 40th with an opening round of 81. That puts her two strokes ahead of teammates Mandy Boyle and Jordan York. Their scores of 83 have them in a tie for 46th.
Sami Langford shot 87 to conclude the team scoring. She's in a tie for 60th.
The second round of the 54-hole event begins at 9 a.m. on Monday.
