OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha cross country team is looking to rise above its preseason conference ranking this weekend at the Summit League Championships in Vermillion, S.D. The race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Mavericks were picked fifth in the preseason coaches' poll.
Omaha wrapped up its regular season competition at the Bradley Pink Classic on October 13, finishing 27th in a competitive Division I race. Willa Koenig crossed the line first for the Mavericks, taking 64th and running a personal best of 22:16.2 for the 6k event. Omaha's second finisher Emily Johnson also took home a personal best, running 22:46.3 and finishing 105th.
Kayla Sabotin finished the course in 23:31.8 while Karo Garcia finished in 23:45.3, taking 158th and 172nd, respectively. Omaha's last scorer was Alyssa Averhoff, who finished 183rd in 24:07.2.
Following the Summit League Championships, the Mavericks will travel to Ames, Iowa for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship. The race is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 10.
