Marie Kapelevich will join the Omaha women's tennis program this spring.

OMAHA, Neb. -- Marie Kapelevich, a transfer from Evansville, will join the Omaha women's tennis program this spring, head coach Adam Summitt announced Wednesday.
Kapelevich, a freshman who hails from Antioch, Ill., began her collegiate career at UE before the Purple Aces' program was eliminated following the fall season.
Kapelevich was previously a four-year letterwinner for coach Chris Kannenberg at Carmel Catholic High School. As a senior, she won a conference title in No. 1 singles, earned a sectional championship in No. 1 doubles and finished in the top eight for doubles at the state tournament. Kapelevich also earned IHSA second-team honors in doubles.
In her junior season, Kapelevich earned IHSA third-team recognition in singles, went 5-2 at state and was voted her team's most valuable player. As a sophomore, she was a conference champion for No. 2 singles, and her team won both conference and sectional titles.
"I am happy to announce Marie coming to Omaha this January," Summitt said. "She will add depth to our roster with her hard work and talent. Marie was an accomplished player coming out of high school and has already played some great competition at UE before the program was cut. She has great character and work ethic, and she will fit into our mold here at UNO."
