Throwers Lead Way For Mavericks at South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. – Sophomore Anna Edet of the Omaha track & field team put up the third-best weight throw mark in school history, leading a string of personal bests at the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet at South Dakota.

Edet had a throw of 53-05, a personal best mark that ties her with Liz Thompson for third at UNO all-time. It's the third time this year that she has put up a mark that ranks among the top six in school history. Edet took take third in the event.

Maddy Partridge put up a season-best mark of 47-00 ¼ in the weight throw to finish ninth. Lauren Doeschot was 10th at 46-05 ½, and Kristen Leisinger was 11th at 44-11 ¾, both personal bests.

In the long jump, Sasha Quattlebaum took second with a mark of 16-08 ½ while teammate Nyakuome Thichiot finished sixth at 16-01 ½, a personal best.

Thichiot also took third in the triple jump with leap of 34-08 ½.

On the track, Sydnee Mitchell-Jemison reached two personal bests. She took second in the 400 meters win a time of 59.53 and got sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.60.

Also in the 400, Alyssa Thavenet was third with a time of 59.83 while Daylee Olson was eighth at 1:02.00.

Lauren Houston took first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.56.

In the longer distances, Willa Koenig led five Mavericks in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:29.21, good for fourth place. Kayla Sabotin was sixth with a PR of 10:37.28, just ahead of Renata Valquier-Chavez at 10:39.02, putting her seventh. Alyssa Averhoff took eight at 10:41.34, and Annie Catania was 11th at 11:08.51.

In the mile, Rosie Gensichen finished in eight with a time of 5:26.09, just ahead of teammate Anita Jenkins who ran a PR of 5:28.46.

In the 4 x 400 meter relay, the team of Brekk Flax, Sabotin, Jenkins and Sarah Steffensmeier finished fifth in a time of 4:12.21.

The Mavericks return to action at the SDSU Classic at South Dakota State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
