MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Omaha women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Kansas State on Friday at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 3-9 on the season.
Kansas State claimed the doubles point early in the match to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The No. 2 pair of freshmen Rylee Tucker and Emily Behling fell to Carolina Costamagna and Ines Mesquita, 6-1, to open the match. The Wildcats claimed the doubles point when the pair of junior Michelle Lo and sophomore Janelle Wilson lost to Ana Garcia Navas and Millie Stretton, 6-3.
Kansas State swept the singles matches later in the match to capture the 7-0 victory. Wilson fell to Stretton, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 position for the closest singles match of the day.
“I thought we played with energy and confidence, but Kansas State was a little to much for us,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “They're a really solid team, top to bottom. Even though we lost, this was good experience for us.”
