Walters Announces Additions to Omaha Women’s Soccer Coaching Staff

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha women's soccer head coach Tim Walters announced a trio of additions to his staff. Walters has added Kelly Farrell in the role of assistant coach. Chelsey Turner joins Walters' staff as a goalkeeper coach, while Ava Doetsch will serve as a graduate assistant.
"I'm pleased with the coaching staff we have put together this year," said Walters. "We have a wealth of experience playing at a very high level, including winning conference championships and playing in NCAA tournament games. Most importantly this is a group with a ton of energy who are excited about what we have going on here in our athletic department at UNO."
Farrell joins the Mavericks after spending last season as the associate head coach at UAB. Prior to her tenure with the Blazers, she spent three seasons at Georgia Southern and two seasons at Monmouth. Before working with the Hawks, Farrell spent a season as the director of soccer operations at Loyola (Md.).
Farrell, a former All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) performer at Loyola (Md.), was named to the 2014-15 National Soccer Coaches Association of America's 30 under 30 coaching program.
"Coach Farrell comes highly recommended from some prominent Division I coaches, including coaches who have led their teams to College Cups and National Championships," said Walters. "She also adds a wealth of recruiting experience that will help our program going forward."
Turner joins the Mavericks staff as a volunteer goalkeeper coach. A native of Rochester, Minn., she started her collegiate playing career at Minnesota in 2006, where she played in 20 games (19 starts) over two seasons. As a Gopher, Turner compiled a record of 7-11-1 with six shutouts and a 1.40 goals-against average.
Turner then transferred to Marquette for her final two years. In her junior season (2008), she appeared in 11 matches, starting five including the NCAA Tournament vs. Minnesota. Turner sat out her senior season due to injury.
"Chelsey has been working with us for a few months now and really helped Erin Bunker improve this spring," said Walters. "I'm thrilled that we have someone with her playing experience working with our very competitive goalkeeping group this fall again."
Doetsch starred for Omaha during her four-year career from 2013-16. During her career, she appeared in 72 games and set the program's all-time mark for minutes played with 5,999. Doetsch earned Second Team All-Summit honors and was a four-time member of the Summit League Academic Honor Roll.
"Keeping Ava around is going to be a big plus for our team this fall," said Walters. "No one has played more minutes for UNO, and her experience and competitive streak is a great fit with the rest of our staff."
The Mavericks open the season with an exhibition game on Thursday, Aug. 10 at Arkansas and begin their NCAA schedule the following weekend when they visit Eastern Washington on Friday, Aug. 18.
