Omaha Opens Fall Season at Drake Invitational

DES MOINES, Iowa – Savanna Crowell won the Flight "D" consolation finals at the Drake Invitational over the weekend at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
"We played some quality matches this weekend," said head women's tennis coach Adam Summit. "We started off flat, but picked up our level of play the next two days, and ended on some high notes. I saw many things I liked, but there are some things we need to adjust. I am looking forward to the rest of the season with this team and to see how they compete and grow."
Crowell opened the tournament on Friday by falling to North Dakota's Masha Lobanova in split sets 6-1, 3-6, 2-6. She responded by blanking Upper Iowa's Lara Peco 6-0, 6-0, and topped South Dakota's Hannah Winch in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Crowell finished the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Upper Iowa's Anna Okolot.
Natalie Lorentz advanced to the consolation finals in Flight "B." Lorentz lost her opening match to Drake's Elizaveta Petushkova 6-2, 6-1. She then beat South Dakota's Nanette Nylund 7-5, 7-6 (4) and Northern Illinois' Brodie Walker 6-2, 6-3. Drake's Kenya Williams outlasted Lorentz 7-6 (4), 6-1 in the consolation finals.
In doubles action, Emily Behling and Michelle Walker advanced to the Flight "B" consolation finals. The duo lost their opening match to Hall (Minnesota) and Erasmus (Northern Illinois) 8-4. Behling and Walker won their next two matches over Northern Iowa Proudfoot and Small (8-4) and North Dakota's Nakasota/Wessman (8-5). Creighton's Rosette and Lavallee earned a hard-fought win in the consolation finals, 8-6.
In other singles action, Rylee Tucker defeated Upper Iowa's Shakhnaza Zhanatova 7-5, 6-4, and Kylie Boyer defeated Creighton's Claire Embree in split sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Omaha returns to action Sept. 22-24, heading to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the Gopher Invite.
